Levantam-se educandários em toda a Terra.
Estabelecimentos para a instrução primária, universidades para o ensino superior.
Ao lado, porém, das instituições que visam à especialização profissional e científica, na atualidade, encontramos no templo espírita a escolada alma, ensinando a viver.
Semelhante trabalho de burilamento do espírito, porém não é novo.
Lucas, o evangelista, conta-nos que Jesus (Lucas, 4: 16-30), num sábado em Nazaré, participou de uma assembleia de fiéis, junto da qual leu uma página de Isaías, com vistas à edificação dos ouvintes, provocando, aliás, acirrada discussão.
Mencionamos o fato para salientar os hábitos de estudo nas coletividades de então, porquanto, para citar o Cristo, à feição de mestre, basta recordar-lhe a palavra constantemente endereçada ao povo, tanto nas praças quanto nos recintos familiares, qual aconteceu na casa de Betânia. Lucas, 18: 38-42)
No dia de Pentecostes (Atos, 2: 1-4), mensageiros sublimes prevaleceram-se das faculdades medianímicas dos continuadores diretos de Jesus e falaram, em línguas diversas, instruindo a multidão sobre assuntos de espiritualidade superior.
Sabemos que um Espírito amigo se aproximou de Felipe (Atos, 8: 26-31) e solicitou-lhe a gentileza de encontrar a caminho um alto funcionário etíope, a fim de ler em comunhão com ele certas passagens das Escrituras.
As cartas de Paulo aos cristãos de várias comunidades eram lidas (Colossenses, 4: 16) e trocadas para as elucidações devidas, nos centros de cultura evangélica dos tempos apostólicos.
Justo assim, que as instituições espíritas, revivendo agora o cristianismo puro, sustentem estudos sistemáticos, destinados a clarear o pensamento religioso e traçar diretrizes à vida espiritual.
Atentos à sugestão confortadora de amigos, organizamos o presente volume, que consubstancia, de modo leve e ligeiro, os resultados de quarenta reuniões públicas de Doutrina Espírita, nas quais examinamos, livremente, nós, os servidores desencarnados, os ensinamentos de Allan Kardec, juntamente de nossos companheiros encarnados.
Certo, cada capítulo deixa o assunto em aberto para o exame de outros comentaristas que desejem partilhar conosco a felicidade do estudo, através do livro, de vez que, na própria palavra do apóstolo Pedro (II Pedro, 1: 20), nós verificamos que nenhum conceito da escritura é de interpretação particular.
Em apresentando, pois este livro aos companheiros do mundo, recorremos à palavra do Cristo, quando nos exorta: “conhecereis a verdade e a verdade vos fará livres”. (João, 8: 32)
Efetivamente, não alcançaremos a libertação verdadeira sem abolir o cativeiro da ignorância no reino do espírito. E forçoso será observar que o conhecimento é um tipo de aquisição que exige de nós caridade para conosco, porque se é possível sanar as deficiências do corpo pelas doações da beneficência, como sejam o alimento ao faminto e o remédio ao doente, a luz do espírito não se transmite nem por imposição, nem por osmose. Quem aspira entesourar os valores da própria emancipação íntima à frente do Universo e da Vida, deve e precisa estudar.

At the school of the soul
Schools are raised all over the Earth.Establishments for primary education, universities for higher education.
Alongside, however, the institutions that aim at professional and scientific specialization, nowadays, we find in the spiritist temple the school of the soul, teaching how to live.
A similar work of honing the spirit, however, is not new.
Luke, the evangelist, tells us that Jesus (Luke, 4: 16-30), on a Saturday in Nazareth, took part in an assembly of the faithful, where he read a page from Isaiah, with a view to edifying the listeners, provoking, in fact, fierce debate.
We mention this fact to emphasize the habits of study in the collectivities of that time, because, to quote Christ, as a teacher, it is enough to remember the word constantly addressed to the people, both in squares and in family precincts, which happened in the house of Bethany. Luke, 18:38-42)
On the day of Pentecost (Acts, 2: 1-4), sublime messengers took advantage of the mediumistic faculties of Jesus' direct followers and spoke, in different languages, instructing the multitude on matters of superior spirituality.
We know that a friendly Spirit approached Philip (Acts, 8: 26-31) and asked him to be kind enough to meet a high-ranking Ethiopian official on his way, in order to read in communion with him certain passages of Scripture.
Paul's letters to Christians from various communities were read (Colossians, 4: 16) and exchanged for due clarification in the centers of evangelical culture in apostolic times.
Just so, that spiritist institutions, now reviving pure Christianity, support systematic studies, destined to clarify religious thought and outline guidelines for spiritual life.
Attentive to the comforting suggestion of friends, we have organized this volume, which embodies, in a light and light way, the results of forty public meetings of the Spiritist Doctrine, in which we, the discarnate servants, freely examined the teachings of Allan Kardec, together of our fellow incarnates.
Of course, each chapter leaves the matter open for the examination of other commentators who wish to share with us the happiness of the study, through the book, since, in the apostle Peter's own words (II Peter, 1: 20), we find that no concept of scripture is privately interpreted.
In presenting this book to the companions of the world, we resort to the word of Christ, when he exhorts us: “you will know the truth and the truth will make you free”. (John, 8:32)
Indeed, we will not achieve true liberation without abolishing the bondage of ignorance in the realm of the spirit. And it will be necessary to observe that knowledge is a type of acquisition that demands from us charity towards ourselves, because if it is possible to remedy the deficiencies of the body by the donations of beneficence, such as food for the hungry and medicine for the sick, the light of the spirit it is not transmitted either by imposition or by osmosis. Those who aspire to treasure the values of their own intimate emancipation ahead of the Universe and Life, should and need to study.
