A retribuição / the retribution
“Pedro disse-lhe: e nós que deixamos tudo e te seguimos, que receberemos?” – Mateus, 19:27.
A pergunta do apóstolo exprime a atitude de muitos corações nos templos religiosos.
Consagra-se o homem a determinado círculo de fé e clama, de imediato: – “Que receberei?”
A resposta, porém, se derrama silenciosa, através da própria vida.
Que recebe o grão maduro, após a colheita? O triturador que o ajuda a purificar-se.
Que prêmio se reserva à farinha alva e nobre? O fermento que a transforma para a utilidade geral.
Que privilégio caracteriza o pão, depois do forno? A graça de servir.
Não se formam cristãos para adornos vivos do mundo e sim para a ação regeneradora e santificante da existência.
Outrora, os servidores da realeza humana recebiam o espólio dos vencidos e, com eles, se rodeavam de gratificações de natureza física, com as quais abreviavam a própria morte.
Em Cristo, contudo, o quadro é diverso.
Vencemos, em companhia dele, para nos fazermos irmãos de quantos nos partilham a experiência, guardando a obrigação de ampará-los e ser-lhes úteis.
Simão Pedro, que desejou saber qual lhe seria a recompensa pela adesão à Boa Nova, viu, de perto, a necessidade da renúncia. Quanto mais se lhe acendrou a fé, maiores testemunhos de amor à Humanidade lhe foram requeridos. Quanto mais conhecimento adquiriu, a mais ampla caridade foi constrangido, até o sacrifício extremo.
Se deixaste, pois, por devoção a Jesus, os laços que te prendiam às zonas inferiores da vida, recorda que, por felicidade tua, recebeste do Céu a honra de ajudar, a prerrogativa de entender e a glória de servir.

The retribution
“Peter said to him: And we who have left everything and followed you, what shall we receive?” — Matthew, 19:27.
The apostle's question expresses the attitude of many hearts in religious temples.
Man is consecrated to a certain circle of faith and immediately cries out: – “What shall I receive?”
The answer, however, pours out silently, through life itself.
Who receives the ripe grain after the harvest? The shredder that helps you purify yourself.
What prize is reserved for white and noble flour? The yeast that transforms it into general use.
What privilege characterizes the bread, after the oven? The grace to serve.
Christians are not formed for the living adornments of the world, but for the regenerating and sanctifying action of existence.
In the past, the servants of human royalty received the spoils of the vanquished and, with them, surrounded themselves with gratifications of a physical nature, with which they shortened their own death.
In Christ, however, the picture is different.
We won, in his company, to become brothers of those who share our experience, keeping the obligation to support and be useful to them.
Simão Pedro, who wanted to know what the reward would be for joining the Good News, saw, up close, the need for resignation. The more his faith was kindled, the greater testimonies of love for Humanity were required of him. The more knowledge he acquired, the wider charity was constrained, even to the utmost sacrifice.
If, therefore, out of devotion to Jesus you left the ties that bound you to the lower areas of life, remember that, for your happiness, you received from Heaven the honor of helping, the prerogative of understanding and the glory of serving.
