“E que os tenhais em grande estima e amor por causa da sua obra.” – Paulo – 1ª Epístola aos Tessalonicenses, 5:13.
Esta passagem de Paulo, na Primeira Epístola aos Tessalonicenses, é singularmente expressiva para a nossa luta cotidiana.
Todos experimentamos a tendência de consagrar a maior estima apenas àqueles que leiam a vida pela cartilha dos nossos pontos de vista. Nosso devotamento é sempre caloroso para quantos nos esposem os modos de ver, os hábitos enraizados e os princípios sociais; todavia, nem sempre nossas interpretações são as melhores, nossos costumes os mais nobres e nossas diretrizes as mais elogiáveis.
Daí procede o impositivo de desintegração da concha do nosso egoísmo para dedicarmos nossa amizade e respeito aos companheiros, não pela servidão afetiva com que se liguem ao nosso roteiro pessoal, mas pela fidelidade com que se norteiam em favor do bem comum.
Se amamos alguém tão-só pela beleza física, é provável encontremos amanhã o objeto de nossa afeição a caminho do monturo.
Se estimamos em algum amigo apenas a oratória brilhante, é possível esteja ele em aflitiva mudez, dentro em breve.
Se nos consagramos a determinada criatura só porque nos obedeça cegamente, é provável estejamos provocando a queda de outros nos mesmos erros em que temos incidido tantas vezes.
É imprescindível aperfeiçoar nosso modo de ver e de sentir, a fim de avançarmos no rumo da vida superior.
Busquemos as criaturas, acima de tudo, pelas obras com que beneficiam o tempo e o espaço em que nos movimentamos, porque, um dia, compreenderemos que o melhor raramente é aquele que concorda conosco, mas é sempre aquele que concorda com o Senhor, colaborando com ele, na melhoria da vida, dentro e fora de nós.

This passage from Paul in the First Epistle to the Thessalonians is uniquely expressive for our everyday struggle.
We all experience the tendency to give the highest esteem only to those who read life through the primer of our points of view. Our devotion is always warm for those who espouse our ways of seeing, rooted habits and social principles; however, our interpretations are not always the best, our customs the noblest and our guidelines the most commendable.
Hence the imposition of disintegration of the shell of our selfishness to dedicate our friendship and respect to our companions, not for the affective servitude with which they are linked to our personal script, but for the fidelity with which they are guided in favor of the common good.
If we love someone just for physical beauty, we are likely to meet the object of our affection tomorrow on the way to the dunghill.
If we esteem in any friend only brilliant oratory, it is possible that he will soon be in distressing muteness.
If we consecrate ourselves to a certain creature just because it blindly obeys us, it is likely that we are causing others to fall into the same mistakes that we have fallen into so many times.
It is essential to improve our way of seeing and feeling in order to advance towards the higher life.
Let us seek creatures, above all, for the works with which they benefit the time and space in which we move, because, one day, we will understand that the best is rarely the one who agrees with us, but it is always the one who agrees with the Lord, collaborating with him, in improving life, inside and outside of us.
